MS Friends of Rachel Club raises $2,500 at Warrior Walk event

Local organizations give thanks

February 7, 2012 – The second annual Warrior Walk, sponsored by Stillwater Middle School’s Friends of Rachel Club, was held this past fall. The event was yet another success, bringing in $2,500 in donations.

This year, donations were distributed among the four following organizations:

  • $500 to the Stillwater Food Pantry;
  • $300 to the Mechanicville Food Pantry;
  • $1200 to the “Schoharie Christmas Angels” fund, which provided $200 each to six Schoharie families in need; and
  • $500 to the widows and children of September 11, specifically designated for Scholarship America’s Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund.

Middle School Principal, Patricia Morris, received thank you letters on behalf of the students, from each of the organizations that benefited from the event.

Schoharie Elementary Principal, Maryellen Gillis, sent a personal thank you to Stillwater students.

Both the Mechanicville and Stillwater food pantries were thankful for the much-needed donations. “Once again, the students at Stillwater Middle School did an outstanding job helping to fill the cupboards of the food pantry. Your food always comes in at a time when our cupboards are getting very low,” wrote Sheila Callanan from the Stillwater Food Pantry.

“I am so proud of all of the Friends of Rachel Club members, for their enthusiasm and generosity is simply contagious,” adds Morris. “I also want to thank everyone who helped support the Warrior Walk. The event was a success because of all of their support.”

The Friends of Rachel Club is a community service action group.
