The Stillwater Board of Education The Stillwater Board of Education is composed of nine members. They are elected to single three year terms by District voters to govern the school district. Roles and responsibilities of the Board include: · Establishing a vision and long term goals for the District · Developing Board policy and taking action as required by law · Advocacy for a high quality education for all of our students · Assuming the effective day to day administration of the school district · Adopting a budget that reflects and supports District goals.
Board Meetings The school board meets twice monthly, with the exception of December, when there is a single meeting. The meetings are usually held on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the high school's Library/Media Center. Meeting dates are included on the District calendar and website. All meetings are open to the public. Stillwater residents are encouraged to attend Board meetings, which often feature presentations regarding educational programs and activities, policy issues, Board committee reports, and finances. The Board agenda is posted on the District website. Copies are also available at the meeting. A school board must have a quorum of members (five of nine members) present for a regular meeting to take place. All Board actions authorized or required by law must be taken in an open meeting. New York State law allows the Board to discuss issues related to personnel, real estate, negotiations and legal matters in Executive Session. However, any vote on these issues are taken in open session.
Public Input If residents wish to address the Board at a Board meeting, there are two specific opportunities to do so. At the beginning of each meeting, the Board President will ask if there is any public input related to agenda items. If a resident wishes to address the Board, he or she should raise their hand, and once they have been recognized by the Board President, state their name, address and the agenda item you wish to discuss. Later during the meeting, the Board provides another opportunity for public input for non-agenda items. In this case, the same procedure is utilized. The Board prohibits discussion on matters related to staff and students, at which their reputation, privacy or rights to due process or those of others could in some way be violated, is strictly prohibited. These types of concerns should be directed to the Board of Education in writing, to the attention of the Board President.

Board of Education The Board of Education President is a member of all Board of Education committees and teams, as is the Superintendent of Schools. The committee meeting schedule and committee/team goals will be posted as they become available.
