Dear High School Students/Families:
As we near the end of the school year, Regents week is fast approaching in the High School. Our faculty, staff and students have worked hard all year long to prepare for the upcoming finals and Regents tests. We are confident that our students are prepared and able to succeed on their final exams. The last day of regular classes will be Monday, June 13. A local finals day will be held on Tuesday, June 14, and the schedule can be referenced below. Your child only has to be present for the time of his/her exam on June 14. Regular transportation schedules will be followed on June 13 and 14. More details related to transportation during Regents week can be found below.
Regents exams this year are required for all students in a class culminating in an exam. There is no exemption to the exams as existed the previous two years, except for U.S. History, which has been canceled this year and through June 2023. Students scheduled for that exam this year and next will receive an exemption for their high school graduation requirements. Regents exams are a NYS graduation requirement and appear on a student’s official high school transcript. Students continue to be required to earn at least a 65 on required Regents exams to satisfy the Graduation Requirement.
For the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years, NYSED is permitting the appeal of student exam scores between 50 and 64 if the student has completed the course with an overall course average meeting or exceeding the required passing grade of 65. The appeal is made by the building Principal to the Superintendent.
As a parent, it is important to know that if a student does not take a required Regents exam, they will not be eligible for the appeal or for graduation. While most of our students will score well above the 50/64 benchmark a few students may benefit from the appeal option after putting forth their best effort. In previous years, a student would have to retake the Regents exam even though they may have passed the class. We plan to utilize the appeal provision where it benefits students.
Information related to Regents week:
- Teachers may be holding Regents Review Sessions throughout Regents week. These schedules will be provided to students by the specific teacher.
Regents exams will begin at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Exam time allotment is 3 hours. No student can leave before the 2 hour time period. There is space in school for students who complete the exam before the end of the exam period and need to use school transportation. - During Regents weeks, buses are available in the morning and end of day at the usual pick up and drop off times. If your child has an afternoon exam and uses the full 3 hour exam time period, he/she can access a bus home on the elementary school run.
- If your child has ONLY a morning exam, there will be an 11:15 midday bus to bring your child home. This bus will NOT pick up students for afternoon exams.
- Throughout the exam period, it is not necessary for your child to sign in and out of the building and/or provide a note for leaving before or after the scheduled exam.
Thank you for your support and cooperation as the school year comes to an end. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Miss Carolyn Manzella
