Absent: M. Toleman

President Hems called the meeting of the Board of Education to order at 6:00 p.m.

Board members led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was no public input on non-agenda items.

  1. Mindfulness Presentation
    1. Ms. Wilson and several students attended the Board meeting to discuss Mindfulness. Ms. Wilson guided the Board in a demonstration of the technique.
    2. V. Masterson asked Ms. Morris for a cost estimate to implement the program in the Middle School.
  2. Consent Agenda
    1. On a motion by V. Masterson, seconded by S. Valigorsky, to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:
      1. The minutes of the 2/27/2018 regular meeting of the Board  of Education (see supplemental minutes)
      2. General Warrant #22 in the amount of $105,907.27 (see supplement minutes)
      3. Emergency Warrant #21 in the amount of $1,521.97 (see supplemental minutes)
      4. Cafeteria Warrant #9 in the amount of $9,883.76 (see supplemental minutes)
      5. Capital Warrant #8 in the amount of $152,491.00 (see supplemental minutes)

  4. Superintendent’s Report
    1. Mrs. Morris discussed plans for the snack bar. V. Masterson requested information concerning the costs the District will incur in pursuit of NYSED approval for the project.
  5. Financial Reports – Proposed 2018-19 Budget – Draft #1
    1. Board members received the first draft of the proposed 2018-19 budget. (see supplemental minutes)
    2. Ms. Derway noted that this draft was a “rollover” budget based on this fiscal year’s (2017-18) actual expenditures, and that it included expected increases in salaries and benefits.
    3. Mrs. Morris noted that she would like to add funding for the STEAM and STEM programs, and an Employee Assistance Program (through WSWHE BOCES).
    4. Board members discussed planning for the eventual  replacement of the turf field. Ms. Derway suggested including a proposition on the May 2018 ballot to establish a capital fund for that purpose.
    5. Board members agreed by consensus.
  6. Treasurer’s Reports
    1. Board members received the January 31, 2018 Treasurer’s Reports. (see supplemental minutes)
  7. Adoption of the legal ad was postponed so that it could be modified to include an additional capital project proposition for the purpose of turf replacement.
  8. Appointment – F. Chambers, Bus Driver
    1. On a motion by V. Masterson, seconded by S. Valigorsky, to appoint Ford Chambers as a bus driver effective 3/19/2018. (see supplemental minutes)
