About the Community

The Town of Stillwater, with a population of 3,940, is located in upstate New York. The town encompasses a total area of 43.6 square miles, of which 2.2 square miles is water. Within the town resides the village of Stillwater. The east town line is the border of Rensselaer County and Washington County, marked by the Hudson River.

Within a short drive, residents can visit a premiere shopping mall, swim and fish in Saratoga Lake, or enjoy a picnic in one of the many local and state parks. More than a dozen colleges and universities are nearby, including the State University of New York at Albany, The Sage Colleges, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Historic Saratoga Springs, home of the famous Saratoga Thoroughbred Race Track, lies less than 15 minutes away. Montreal, Boston and New York City are all within a few hours’ drive.

Stillwater Steppers

This walking group started in 2008 as a collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention through the UAlbany Prevention Research Center, Parks and Trails New York and the local steering committee, to help improve general health and well-being.

The Stillwater Steppers walk from 5-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the halls of Stillwater Central School.

If you are interested in participating, a registration form must be completed before you join the program. Forms are available in the middle school office during school hours.

*Please note, the school is not open for walking during school breaks and snow days.
