Stillwater Central School District is dedicated to preparing students for college, the workplace, and life.
Stillwater offers a Universal Pre-K through grade 12 program designed to promote the academic and personal development of all students.
A small school atmosphere, individual attention, and community support are just some of the things that make Stillwater unique. The district is proud to provide students with a strong academic program in core subjects, as well as offer accelerated courses, distance learning courses, and a variety of electives, such as art and music.
Testing and Assessments
Stillwater’s students take a number of exams every year — NYS Exams, Regents Exams, Local Exams and AP Exams. The New York State Education Department mandates that all public school districts give state tests in English language arts, math and science to all students in grades 3-8. High School Regents Exams are held in January, June and August.
Home Instruction
Beginning the 2024-25 school year, we will be partnering with WSWHE BOCES, our local region educational service provider to assist families and the district with homeschooled children renewal and required documentation throughout the school year.
Please fill out our new Letter of Intent to Homeschool (LOI) Form. Once this is complete, you will receive a welcome email/orientation email.
All required documents and submissions remain the same but you will need to the WSWHE BOCES Home Education Coordination webpage to submit all materials. You can also go to the WSWHE BOCES website and search, “Home Education Coordination Service.”
If you have any questions on the new process please email and someone will reach out to you soon. We look forward to working with you and we hope that this new support assists you throughout the year.
Grade Promotion and Placement Policy
Grade promotion and the placement of students within the District’s instructional system will be at the discretion of the school administration and will be subject to review at any time. In making these decisions, the administrator or building principal will be guided by: performance in class; past records, including various measures of student growth; recommendations from parents, persons in parental relation to District students, and teachers; and any other appropriate sources of information. With regard to student placement decisions, parents or persons in parental relation to District students may submit written requests for teacher attributes that would best serve their child’s learning needs; however, requests for specific teachers will not be honored.
Decisions about student promotion and placement are at the discretion of the building principal. These decisions are guided by recommendations of teachers and staff members, past academic performance, and parent/guardian input. Past academic performance refers to a variety of indicators of student achievement and growth. Promotion and placement decisions are not based solely on student performance on New York state assessments in grades 3-8 English language arts or mathematics. The district’s promotion and placement policy was adopted by the board of education following a review by the district administration.
