Distraction-free learning policy FAQ’s

In accordance with New York State Governor Kathy Hochul’s Distraction-Free Schools law, Stillwater Central School District is implementing a new policy restricting cellphone use during the school day. Beginning Sept. 4, 2025, all students in grades 6-12 will be required to turn off their phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth headphones and any other personal electronic devices and secure them in a district-issued Yondr pouch. These pouches are designed to securely store personal electronic devices during the school day to support student focus, engagement, academic performance and well-being.

As part of our commitment to making this transition as smooth as possible for students and families, we’ve created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guide that explains how the Yondr pouch system works, how parents can contact their children during the school day and what is expected of students.

We encourage you to review the FAQs to learn more about how this policy will positively impact our classrooms and school community. In addition, families can attend the Distraction-Free Learning Forum on Monday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. in the MS/HS Auditorium to ask questions and gain further insight into the process.

Thank you for your partnership as we create a learning environment that keeps every student focused, present and ready to succeed.
