Federal free meals for all ends; families encouraged to apply for free & reduced price meals

August 1, 2022

Dear Stillwater Families:

As we all prepare for September, Stillwater Central School wants to make you aware of a significant change that may impact the families in our community.

For the past two years, we have enjoyed serving all of our students meals at no cost through a federal aid program, which has ended, and our current guidance from the USDA does not allow us to serve free meals to every student during the 2022-23 school year.

The importance of free and reduced price meal forms

Free and reduced price meals are still available for families who apply and qualify.  You are highly encouraged to fill out a free and reduced price meal application for your family. Meal information, payment options and free and reduced price meal applications are available on this website on the Food Services webpage. Applications for free and reduced price meals are also available at our office and will be included in this fall’s district calendar.

Additional benefits

It is important to note that families who complete the application are eligible for additional benefits, including reduced fees for college applications and testing. Participation in the free and reduced price meal program also helps provide essential funding for our school.

Thank you for allowing us to feed your children

We will continue to serve high quality, nutrient-dense meals that students enjoy. Our school lunch program is a solely funded entity that receives revenue only from meals that are served. When families and students choose to purchase a meal from school, it is the equivalent of supporting a small business.

We greatly appreciate your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Sincerely,
Joan Hopeck
Food Services Director
