The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognizes October 13-17 as School Board Recognition Week. The week highlights the integral role school boards play in shaping the future of our schools and students through their leadership and service. These dedicated individuals help create the standards and practices that foster lifelong learning and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The Stillwater Central School District Board of Education consists of nine members elected by town residents. They volunteer their time to enhance the SCSD educational experience and do not receive compensation for their service. The Board continually works to fulfill the district’s mission by setting long-term goals and providing guidance on a wide range of topics, from policy to curriculum.

“Strong schools build strong communities, and our Board of Education plays a vital role in that mission,” said Superintendent of Schools Joseph Mariano, Jr. “They give their time and expertise to help our schools thrive, and our students benefit every day from their dedication.”

According to Superintendent Mariano, the core work of school boards is to raise student achievement by developing a shared vision and goals for the district, while ensuring strategies, resources, policies and programs align with those goals. Additionally, promoting a positive school climate creates a learning environment where all students thrive.

Thank you to the SCSD Board of Education for the valuable work they do each day and their commitment to providing individualized, exceptional experiences for all of our students:
