Senior Katie Coogan reaches 100th career hit

A group of softball players poses together, celebrating a milestone for player #12, Katie Coogan, holding a sign that reads "100 Career Hits." There are silver balloons in the background.

Stillwater High School senior Katie Coogan is making her final season on the varsity softball team one to remember. She achieved her 100th career hit Wednesday, April 29, during the team’s game against Waterford-Halfmoon.

Coogan reached the milestone in the first inning with a double to left field. She followed with two home runs, finishing the game 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

“I was really excited and proud of myself when I got my 100th hit because it was my No. 1 goal this season,” Coogan said. “It reflects all of the hard work and dedication I’ve put into softball over the years.”

Coogan began playing softball at age five and has played for Stillwater since seventh grade, joining the varsity team as a freshman. Her primary position is catcher, but she also plays third base and left field. Years in the game have strengthened her passion for softball, and she said she loves “the friendships, memories and excitement that come with it.”

“I love competing with my teammates and constantly pushing myself to improve every time I step on the field,” Coogan said.

Coogan will continue her softball career in college at St. Lawrence University, where she will begin in the fall.

“This has been a great end to my high school softball career and I’m grateful for my teammates, coaches, family and everyone who has supported me along the way,” Coogan said. “It makes me so excited to continue my softball career at St. Lawrence University,” she said.

Coogan’s achievement highlights the dedication and perseverance required to reach a significant athletic milestone, serving as an example for fellow players pursuing their own goals while reinforcing the program’s commitment to excellence on and off the field.
