Stillwater Trap Team heads to state tournament after strong second season

The Stillwater Trap Team is right on target, enjoying an outstanding second season. This year, the team expanded to twelve dedicated athletes ranging from seventh to twelfth grade. Each member consistently demonstrated focus, growth, and sportsmanship every time they stepped up to the line.

On Sunday, June 1, the team competed in the Foothills Challenge Trap Tournament in Hudson Falls—New York State’s second-largest youth shooting sports event. With 250 student athletes representing 25 schools, the tournament was a showcase of talent and determination. Amid the tough competition, Stillwater delivered strong performances, standing out among a highly competitive field.

Highlights from the competition included four individual medals won across various divisions and an impressive overall sixth place team finish – just six targets away from first place and two targets away from placing in the top three. Below is the list of medal winners:

  • Joseph Clark, 7th Grade; Gold Medal, Modified B Division
  • Shaymis Brownell, 10th Grade; Silver Medal, Jr. Varsity Division
  • Jonah Kay, 9th Grade; Bronze Medal, Jr. Varsity Division
  • Elijah Williams, 12th Grade; Bronze Medal, Modified B Division

Next stop for the Stillwater Trap Team is Cicero, where they’ll compete in the New York State High School Trap Tournament from June 6-8. Representing Stillwater, the team is excited to take aim on Friday, June 6, to showcase their skills, dedication and hard work against top teams from throughout the state.

Good luck and congratulations to the team on a remarkable season—Stillwater will be cheering you on!
