A message from the superintendent regarding lockdown drill on Thursday, March 21

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, Thursday, March 21, elementary, middle and high school students and staff participated in an unannounced lockdown drill. This was our third lockdown of the year and it was our second that was unannounced. This drill was done to include some of our new procedures, including the use of blue strobe lights on the interior and exterior of the buildings.

The strobe lights were recently installed in areas where it might be difficult to hear announcements including cafeterias, gymnasiums, etc. They are meant to alert people that there is a potential threat and lets them know that they should not try to enter the building.

Earlier this week, our students and staff were also trained on how to implement a lockdown, in case that is ever necessary.

I want to thank the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office for assisting us today. As always, we debrief and analyze what could be improved upon for next time.

The district has now conducted three of its four required lockdown drills for the year. Please remember that the goal of these drills is to reassure students that there is a district safety plan and that they are an important part of it.

Thank you for your support and cooperation. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Sincerely,

Patricia Morris
Superintendent of Schools
