Two individuals presumed positive for COVID-19

Dear Stillwater Families,

As you may know, all schools in New York State, including Stillwater Central School District, are required to submit a daily report to the state of any cases of COVID-19 linked to a school. The COVID-19 Report Card is available to the public on the New York State Department of Health website and includes daily case statistics from schools throughout the state.

It is important to note that the district is required to report cases where someone shows symptoms of COVID-19, but has not been tested or has not received an alternative diagnosis within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. These cases are also reported as “positive.”

Today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, we reported two positive cases to the state dashboard and to local health authorities, which are presumed positive, based on the guidelines described above. Please be aware that, in accordance with state regulations, we must treat these “presumed positives” as if they are confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The two individuals who are presumed positive have been in the middle/high school building. Again, these individuals have not yet received a positive test result, however, due to being in close contact with others who have, they are presumed positive as well. The district is working with the local Department of Health to follow appropriate contact tracing procedures so that anyone who has been in direct contact will be notified.

All spaces where these individuals have been are being cleaned as per CDC guidance. At this time, our school remains open for in-person instruction.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s building principal.

Sincerely,

Patricia Morris
Superintendent of Schools
