V. NYSED Initiatives Alignment

  1. How will the district’s use of instructional technology support a comprehensive and sustained effort to improve student performance and academic standards, while also addressing the need to provide equitable learning opportunities “everywhere, all the time” (National Technology Plan)?

1. Creating a Foundation of Quality and Equity (Goal 1)

The district’s commitment starts with intentionality. By establishing an Instructional Technology Evaluation Committee and a formal vetting protocol, the district ensures that technology isn’t just “added” to the classroom, but purposefully selected to meet high academic standards.

Impact on Performance: Teachers will only use tools that are proven to align with the instructional vision, reducing “digital noise” and focusing on software that actually moves the needle on student achievement.

Ensuring Equity: The vetting protocol specifically checks for accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2). This means before a piece of software ever reaches a student’s screen, the district has guaranteed it is usable by everyone, regardless of physical or cognitive needs.

  1. Cultivating Future-Ready Ethics (Goal 2)

To support sustained improvement, students must move from being passive consumers to ethical creators. The deployment of a modernized AI philosophy and digital citizenship curriculum addresses the “everywhere, all the time” necessity by teaching students how to use technology responsibly outside of the classroom.

Sustained Effort: “Our strategy for AI is built on Balanced Integration. Developing methodical frameworks that ensure student access to, and use of AI-enhanced software never outpace a teacher’s ability to verify and grade the work ethically. By developing and instituting clear thresholds for ‘human-led’ vs. ‘AI-supported’ tasks, we aim to ensure technology enhances—rather than replaces—the learning process.”

Academic Standards: Integrating AI literacy ensures that Stillwater students are meeting modern workforce standards, understanding the ethics of generative tools, and maintaining academic integrity in a digital world.

  1. Removing Barriers to “Everywhere” Learning (Goal 3)

The most direct answer to the “equitable learning opportunities” requirement is the district’s 100% access mandate. This goal ensures that the physical and digital tools required for success are always available.

Targeted Support: By specifically prioritizing ELL students, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students, the district proactively closes the “achievement gap.” If a student has a personalized learning tool that adapts to their reading level or language, the “academic standard” becomes reachable rather than a barrier.

Adaptive Response: Because the district committed to “continuously maintaining and adjusting” based on shifting demographics, the technology plan remains a living strategy that evolves as the student body changes.

  1. At the start of the 2026-27 school year, will the district offer full-time virtual instruction to any students? (Select all that apply)

[ ] Yes. Our district operates a full-time virtual instruction program.
[X] Yes. One or more of our students will attend a program operated by a BOCES or another public school district.
[ ] None of our students will participate in a full-time virtual instruction program.
[ ] Other

  1. If the district files or has filed a Smart Schools Investment Plan (SSIP) to apply for Smart Schools Bond Act funds, all responses in this survey align with the district’s response to any related question(s) in the SSIP.
